The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the universal Christian church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
-The Holy Spirit is all about extending the work of Jesus Christ- not begin a new or different work
-ALL of our spiritual blessings are to ultimately be found in Christ
-Everything necessary for salvation was wrought by Christ on the cross
-The gospel is the message of Jesus with nothing else added or necessary
-We receive all of the spiritual blessings contained in Christ through the avenue of the Holy Spirit
-The Holy Spirit guides us to faith in Christ and plays the primary role in the conviction of our sins, regeneration and sanctification
-The Holy Spirit works with the revealed word of God and guides us to the truth found therein
-The Holy Spirit allows us to even apprehend spiritual truth
-The Holy Spirit operates under the authority of Christ and His word and will never work contrary to it
-There are no “Holy Ghost bartenders” that can dictate the work of the Spirit as He only answers to the call of Christ and His authority
-The Holy Spirit will never draw attention to himself or to a human being- He only glorifies Jesus Christ
-Any fruits/signs/works of the Holy Spirit will only be done in conjunction with a relationship to Christ- all other signs are false
-The Holy Spirit serves to bring us into the “family of God” and He is given to us as a promise of our future inheritance
-The Holy Spirit serves to “seal” the true elect of God and no one can break that seal
John 16:5 But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: 9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; 11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. 12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
Romans 1:16- For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek
John 14:26- But the helper, the Holy Spirit, who the father will send in my name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all the things that I said to you
Romans 8:14-16- For as many as are led by the spirit of God- these are the sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of adoption by whom we cry out Abba Father. The spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.
